What can intraspecific trait variability tell us about fungal communities and adaptations?

چکیده
Abstract Analyses of species functional traits are suitable to better understand the coexistence in a given environment. Trait information can be applied investigate diversity patterns along environmental gradients and subsequently predict mitigate threats associated with climate change land use. Species used calculate community trait means, which related gradients. However, while provide insights into mechanisms underlying assembly, they lead erroneous inferences if mean values used. An alternative is incorporate intraspecific variability (ITV) calculating means. This approach gains increasing acceptance plant studies. For macrofungi, have recently been examine their ecology but, our knowledge, ITV has yet incorporated within framework Here, we present conceptual summary use including ecological theory. Inferences regarding means or without inclusion compared. Finally, an existing study reconsidered highlight variety possible outcomes when considered. We hope this Opinion will increase awareness potential for within-species its importance statistical inferences, interpretations, predictions structuring communities macro- other fungi.

What Can Cloud Observations Tell Us about Climate Variability?
Clouds have a large impact on the Earth’s radiation budget and hence have the potential to exert strong feedbacks on climate variability and climate change. These feedbacks are not wellunderstood, so it is essential to investigate observed relationships between cloud properties and other parameters of the climate system. Suitable cloud datasets based on surface observations and satellite observ...
متن کاملWhat can proteomics tell us about platelets?
More than 130 years ago, it was recognized that platelets are key mediators of hemostasis. Nowadays, it is established that platelets participate in additional physiological processes and contribute to the genesis and progression of cardiovascular diseases. Recent data indicate that the platelet proteome, defined as the complete set of expressed proteins, comprises >5000 proteins and is highly ...
متن کاملWhat Charm Can Tell Us About Beauty
A number of ways are reviewed in which the study of charmed particles can answer corresponding questions about particles containing b quarks. Topics include the properties of resonances, the magnitude of decay constants, the size of spin-dependent effects, and the hierarchy of lifetime differences.
متن کاملWhat can NLP tell us about BioNLP?
The goal of this work is to apply NLP techniques to the field of BioNLP in order to gain a better insight into the field and show connections and trends that might not otherwise be apparent. The data we analyzed was the proceedings from last decade of BioNLP workshops. Our findings reveal the prominent research problems and techniques in the field, their progression over time, the approaches th...
متن کاملLearning from learning: what can visuomotor adaptations tell us about the neuronal representation of movement?
The use of sensorimotor adaptation and learning paradigms in psychophyical and electrophysiological experiments can help to shed light on two fundamental questions. First, what are the computations that control sensorimotor behavior and, second, what are the neuronal mechanisms and representations underlying newly learned sensorimotor skills? We describe experiments that combined behavioral and...
